Saint Theresa Catholic Church
This tiny church in the center of the Town of Frederick, built early last century, was bursting at the seams. That combined with a small parish hall (in a building across the street) and further disconnected church offices, led the congregation to begin pursuing a new integrated facility on a wonderfully large parcel of ground adjacent to a new residential subdivision.
The initial design provides for a 400 seat sanctuary with overflow seating for another 100-150, plus a large fellowship hall, offices and classrooms, all organized around a central courtyard designed to invoke the feel of a traditional cloister.
Lasting materials such as brick, stucco and stone impart a sense of permanence to the structure, while high vaulted ceilings, tall soaring windows, along with a bell tower and cupola add the verticality and lightness that one expects in a traditional house of God.
